Google is Testing AI Mode in Chrome's Search Bar
Google is quietly rolling out a new feature called AI Mode right inside the Chrome search bar (also known as the “omnibox”). This experimental update could change the way we search forever.
What Is AI Mode in Chrome?
You can use Google’s AI to search right from the Chrome address bar in AI Mode without ever having to open the full search results page. With the help of Google’s Gemini AI models, it provides prompt, intelligent responses.
How Does It Work?
Right now, Google is testing this in:
Chrome Canary (desktop)
Chrome Beta (Android)
There are two ways to trigger AI Mode:
Use the new “AI Mode” button in the search bar.
Type
@aimode
, hit Tab, and enter your query.
You’ll then get an AI answer, not a list of links.
Can You Use It Now?
Platform | Availability | How to Try |
---|---|---|
Chrome Canary | ✅ Yes | Download Canary & type @aimode |
Chrome Beta (Android) | ⚠️ Limited | Update app & look for “AI Mode” |
Chrome Stable | ❌ Not Yet | Wait for public rollout |
Google’s AI Mode is a big step toward smarter, faster browsing. While it’s still in testing, it shows how Google plans to blend AI into our daily searches.
As AI tools like ChatGPT grow popular, Google is making sure it stays one step ahead—by putting AI right where we search the most: the Chrome search bar.
